Covid-19: Canada eases travel restrictions for fully vaccinated travellers

Starting September 7th, 2021 the Government of Canada has eased border measures for fully vaccinated foreign travellers. International flights carrying passengers will be permitted to land at five additional Canadian airports.

Covid19 Ease of Border Restrictions Easing of international border restrictions comes 18 months after the start of COVID-19 pandemic

Easing for border restrictions for international travellers

After successful rollout of Covid-19 vaccines leading to rising vaccination rates and declining COVID-19 cases, the Government of Canada has announced measures to ease border restrictions and once again allow international travellers to visit Canada for non-essential purposes of tourism, business or transit as long as they are fully vaccinated two weeks prior to entering Canada. Quarantine requirements have now been eased for all foreign nationals who are jabbed with a vaccination approved for use by Health Canada and they will no longer be required to quarantine for 14 days.

This relaxation comes 18 months after Government of Canada heavily restricted foreign travel due to COVID-19 pandemic. Prior to this easing of border measures, you needed to have an essential reason to visit Canada or you needed to be Canadian citizen or permanent resident to enter Canada.

Vaccines authorized or recognized by Health Canada

If you are jabbed with one of the below vaccines, then you are in luck and can visit Canada once again for tourism or business.

  • Moderna Spikevax Covid-19 vaccine
  • Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty Covid-19 vaccine
  • AstraZeneca VaxzevriaCovid-19 vaccine
  • Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) Covid-19 vaccine

To be eligible, you must have had one of the above vaccines at least 14 days prior, should be asymptomatic and also carry a proof of negative molecular test for Covid-19 or PCR coronavirus test that's less than 72 hours old. An antigen test is not accepted. All visitors aged five (5) years or over must carry this negative test.

If you are only partially vaccinated and have not taken the second dose of 2-dose vaccines, then you are not exempt from the new ease of restrictions and neither will travellers who have received one dose and recovered from COVID-19.

In addition to international tourists, Canada is also allowing non-essential travel to Canada for American citizens and United States Green Card Holders who are fully vaccinated at least 2 weeks prior to entering Canada.

Travelling with unvaccinated children

Children under the age of 12 do not need to be vaccinated, as long as they are accompanied by their fully vaccinated parents or guardians. Instead, they must take a compulsory Day-8 PCR test and comply with all testing requirements.

Anyone over the age of 2 will need to wear a mask during their flight to Canada. While fully vaccinated travellers are exempt from quarantine, all travellers must still be prepared to quarantine in case it is determined at the border that they do not meet the necessary requirements.

Canada is an amazing time to visit in September and October

The Stratford Festival

The Stratford Festival formerly knowns as Stratford Shakespearean Festival, the Shakespeare Festiva is a theatre festival which runs from April to October in the city of Stratford, Ontario, Canada. While the festival's major focus used to be William Shakespeare's plays the festival has expanded far beyond that. The festival also runs a wide variety of theatre from Greek tragedy to Broadway-style musicals and contemporary works.

Oktoberfest

It might have started in Germany, but Oktoberfest is now synonymous the world over with beer, lederhosen and too much bratwurst. Billed as Canada's Greatest Bavarian Festival, Kitchener–Waterloo Oktoberfest is held in twin cities of Kitchen-Waterlool in Ontario, Canada. It is the second-largest Oktoberfest in the world. There is also Toronto Oktoberfest, Edmonton Oktoberfest and Oktoberfest Ottawa.

Canada in the Fall

The Fall Season in Canada is brief but amazing. For a brief time in September and October, you can witness the leaves change to shades of orange, yellow and red before the fall to the ground. As we enter the last stretch of summer and October looms, the changing foliage is about to hit.
